Three legged race

Meet and Sahil won the ‘Three-Legged race’ in the MISA( Members of International Schools Association) Inter-school meet held at Goregaon sports club.

Road running versus Track and field

For a chronic road runner, the track and field is another form of running. I first started road running on the streets of Pune in the late nineteen seventies. It is a gift which has enriched life.

My father was also a road runner. His father and uncles were walkers in the hills. My maternal grandfather was also a early morning walker.

Hope to pass this form of exercise and enrichment to both Sagar and Sahil. Sahil will probably find it easier to take to the roads, keeping in mind his many athletics medals and achievement.

No 800-1500 meters

The MISA event was well organized. But there were no middle distance races like 800/1500 or longer ones like 5000/10000 which would have tested the high school children.

I asked one of the Physical training instructors.

“There are not many strong runners even for 400 meters” the teacher pointed out. Point taken.

It was these middle-long distance races which used to make me come to track and field in school. Otherwise I was always much happier on the roads.

As the ghazal goes…Aakhri Hum Safar Raasta Rah gaya

Hope to see some longer races next time, which test the staminaand application of the runners.
