Thinking places-Canoe Lake Algonquin 2022-July

The writer John Maxwell said- If you have a designated time and place to think, and make the commitment to go there, you will shape your thinking to a different level.

Last Sunday, we went to Huntsville and Canoe Lake, Algonquin. July has been a hectic month, with Sagar shifting to New York. So at the end of the month, it was a nice few hours in Canoe lake, one with the elements of nature, reflecting and trying to assimilate the different lessons which we learned during our New York trip, and the shifting of Sagar to a new city.

PREVIOUS VISIT-2017: SOME WALKS REMEMBERED

Huntsville-Avery beach- has been a thinking place where we came in 2017-August. It brought us closer to the life and work of Tom Thomson. The Group of Seven artists’ works we had seen at Art Gallery of Ontario over the years. Now, seeing the landscapes which shaped their work was a different experience. This reminded us of the works of the Caravaggisti in Malta or the Company school in India and the museums and Roman time cities in North Africa.

CANOE LAKE AGAIN-A TIME TO REFLECT AFTER THE GRADUATION CEREMONIES

The wind would take our canoe to the shore where it got stuck amongst the trees, rocks. It took us some time to figure things out. However, we did not take the help of the life-guard who came near us, and asked us three times whether we are OK.

Winds carried us to the shores and we got stuck in the rocks at times-July 2022

Yesteryears – Bobcageon-2020-August-we had done Canoeing.

2020-August-

NEW YORK CITY-Aug 8-16..and SAGAR STAYED ON

GRADUATION-FROM RYERSON-TORONTO METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

Sagar-Computer Engineering, Sahil-Mechanical Engineering with distinction

With graduation, Sagar shifted to follow his career in New York City

We went to Marble Collegiate Church and prayed in front of the statue of Dr.Norman Vincent Peale. I first started reading his works in the 1980s. These books we gathered at the book stalls in Connaught Place-Delhi near Regal cinema. “Pray to the God who made you, to remake you” is one of the prayers /aphorisms which have led to many reflections and course changes over the decades.

THINKING TOGETHER

Pray to the God who made you, to Remake You- Dr.Norman Vincent Peale (May 31, 1898 – December 24, 1993) He served as the pastor of Marble Collegiate Church, New York, from 1932, leading this Reformed Church congregation for more than a half-century until his retirement in 1984

We used the DOCTOR tool to see what our direction is, organization, cash/time involved, tracking, overview, refinements in the different tasks we have been doing jointly and individually.

As an example, we did a short review of our gardening at Candlestick circle and our relation with parks and conservancy movements in North America.

D-Direction : 1. Ornamental trees and roses at Candlestick

                      2. Be a part of a conservancy group  (Rouge Valley, Riverwood, Bronte Creek,

Niagara, Algonquin)

O-Organization: 1-Trees at Candlestick: One cedar tree did not survive the winter, returned it to Sheridan Nursery and got smaller plants ( a Juniper)

2-Conservancy group- Decided to adopt a Gorilla. We also prayed and read at Dr.Frank Schofield park-where the connections between Toronto zoo and Seoul zoo (sister zoo of Toronto) are explained.

Cash/Time-   1- A zoo trip takes around 6 hours from Mississauga

2-Last year we went to Bronte Creek-where we came to know about farmhouses of Late Victorian period and Tobermory-the Northern point of the Bruce Trail

TOBERMORY-April 2021

Tracking-   1-Garden- the weeds have to be done at least twice a week

2- Gorilla- the natural habitat section of the zoo, has parallels with the Natural sections of the Royal Ontario Museum which has some exhibits like the Bull-the-Rhino

Overview-  These nature and museum walks are part of increasing our awareness of the connections between different species, habitats of our planet

Refinement- Readings at Natural parks can be more theme focussed.
